THE OPPORTUNITY
MindForce has the opportunity to work with a premier R&D medical university in the United States, if not aruably the best in the world. We are looking at their IP to potentially form new ventures through bringing MBA GlobalNet members together.
For this opportunity, the university recently received back a license from a company that was acquired and is going in another direction. The faculty member has some market ideas for his novel family of proteins that will require additional R&D.
Our opportunity is to launch a start-up, secure capital, and frame the opportunity for a larger player to swoop in and partner with us once we've made some strides.
The present invention is concerned with a novel family of proteins that are present in the mammalian central nervous system and a Molecular Mechanism for Action of Immunophilins and a Method to Identify Novel Pharmaceuticals . These proteins are particularly characterized by (i) their enhanced expression in mammalian central nervous tissue in response to synaptic activation, and (ii) a novel PDZ-like binding domain.
The new protein family is exemplified by a rat protein. Other members of the family have a sequence that is substantially identical (e.g., at least 70% or greater sequence identity, and preferably 80% or greater sequence identity) to that of the rat protein, or to the human and mouse members of the family.
CURRENT TEAM-FORMING STATUS
We have a Venture Team Leader. We are seeking Venture Team members with direct experience and understanding of commercializing biotech protein targets such as this.
We recently had a phone call with the faculty member and introduced a company that may be interested in a license opportunity. There is a role for MindForce at the table in some way.
